Description
Magnesium oxide (MgO) is a popular material for single crystal substrates due to its excellent thermal stability, mechanical strength, and chemical inertness. MgO single crystal substrates are widely used in various applications, including electronics, optics, and thin film deposition.
MgO has a cubic crystal structure with a lattice constant of about 4.21 Å, which makes it an ideal substrate for the growth of various oxide, nitride, and fluoride thin films. MgO single crystal substrates can be used as a substrate for the growth of epitaxial films of materials such as GaN, InGaN, ZnO, and LiNbO3, among others.
MgO is also an excellent insulator, with a high electrical resistivity and a low dielectric loss, making it suitable for use in electronics applications. MgO single crystal substrates can be used as a substrate for the deposition of metal films, which can be used as electrodes in various electronic devices.
In addition to its electrical and mechanical properties, MgO is also transparent in the UV, visible, and near-infrared regions, making it suitable for use in optical applications. MgO single crystal substrates can be used as a substrate for the growth of epitaxial films of various optoelectronic materials, including GaN, ZnO, and LiNbO3, among others.
